Hi, my name is Kane.
I have been working in the fitness industry for over 10 years after graduating as a Personal Trainer in 2005. I have worked in many different gyms, health and sporting clubs; helping people lose weight and achieve their goals. I have won a pro status in the WBFF and love competing. I run my own gym in Australia www.averagekanes.com.au and this is where I met Maree. I had met Maree’s daughter Grace a few times and could see that she was eager to get involved in her mum’s workout. I started out letting Grace do some step-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups and squats alongside her mum. When Maree approached me with the idea of working with Grace and other kids like her, I was happy to do so.
Although I had worked with children before, I’d never worked with children with special needs so this was a first for me and definitely out of my comfort zone. What I found was working with kids with special needs is a lot like working with regular kids; they love exercise and are excited to move their body and have fun with their peers.
I have enjoyed working with the kids and witnessing their growth. Their enthusiasm and determination is inspiring and I have learnt a lot along the way. When people think of exercise programs for kids, they normally think of structured disciplines like dance, karate, team sports etc so a kid attending a gym program is not the norm. Therefore, we have created a unique program which I hope fellow fitness instructors can see the benefits of.
If you like working with children and would also like to make a difference, our Specialcise program is for you.
