NDIS

National Disability Insurance Scheme

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an insurance scheme operating in Australia only. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers. The NDIS will provide Australian families with a permanent and significant disability with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to live an ordinary life. As an insurance scheme, the NDIS takes a lifetime approach, investing in people with disability early to improve their outcomes later in life.

The NDIS supports people with disability to build skills and capability so they can participate in the community and employment. The NDIS helps people with disability to access community services and supports. These are activities and services available to everyone in a community, such as sports clubs, community groups, libraries or charities.

What is an NDIS Provider?

A NDIS Provider is a term used to describe an individual or organisation that delivers a support or a product to a participant in the NDIA. Participants have an individualised plan that identifies the outcomes they wish to achieve, the supports that will be funded by the NDIS and other supports the person requires. Want to become an NDIS Provider?

If you are a fitness trainer or gym instructor you may want to become a NDIS Provider. The Specialcise program is an unique program that can be tailored to the individual with a disability to achieve outcomes specified by a participant. Belonging to a sports club or gym may not be possible for some people with a disability.  Often classes or environments do not cater for individuals who have sensory or social requirements. The Specialcise program has purposely been designed to cater to the needs of kids and adults with disabilities. The Specialcise program can be adapted to Adults with a disability also.

If you are a parent of a child with a disability you may wish to consider a fitness trainer of gym instructor who practices the Specialcise program. Or alternatively, if you cannot find one, approach your local gym and discuss with them the Specialcise program and its benefits for your child and your desire for your child to attend that program. Participant goals of lifelong learning objectives, relationships, social and community participation, health and well being can be met using this specifically designed program for people with a disability.
